‘During my first meeting with Khamenei, in our conversation, he used the word ‘Persian Gulf’, while I referred to it as the ‘Arabian Gulf’.

I asked him: ‘Is it appropriate for the Arabs and Persians to disagree with each other on this issue, if everyone simply uses the name they prefer?’

Khamenei replied: 'The countries on the other side of the Gulf are not truly Arab, rather they are American colonies. The day they become revolutionary like you, I will be the first to sign a document naming it the Arabian Gulf, the Kuwaiti Gulf, or any other name you would prefer.’

Qadaffi: ‘And I agreed with this point. Then I proposed to him that we call it the ‘Islamic Gulf’ instead.

— Iranian sources say that negotiations with the U.S. are ‘progressing’, but the atmosphere is far less positive than it is depicted in U.S. and Pakistani media.

There is still very much a sense that some of the gaps are too wide to bridge, on various issues (not just Hormuz and Nuclear file) and the distrust towards the U.S. is extreme.
